Abstract
The development of flexible bronchoscopy ushered in a new era of less invasive pulmonary evaluation, diagnostic procedures, and treatment. Recent technologic advances have allowed the development of an array of adjunctive ultrasound equipment that can be used during bronchoscopy for a variety of applications. This review article will discuss basic ultrasound principles, the various ultrasound tools now available for bronchoscopic utilization, and how ultrasound has expanded the role bronchoscopy can play in many aspects of thoracic medicine.
