Cancer of any type can affect sexual behavior through the physical and emotional impact of the disease itself and through the effects of chemotherapy or surgery. Major factors to be considered in assessing and treating these problems include the site and characteristics of the particular type of cancer, the patient's life stage and previous psychosocial functioning, and the prognosis. Malignancies of the genital organs may be particularly devastating.
