Abstract

This study describes an in vivo model for evaluation of metabolism of perfused aorta which allows control of hemodynamic stress, isolation of the vessel, and preservation of the endothelium and vasa vasorum. The data obtained show that increased perfusion pressure results in greater uptake of labeled oleate and cholesterol, as well as a shift of acetate incorporation from triglycerides to phospholipids. Alterations in lipid metabolism therefore can be correlated with changing hemodynamic stress.
