The purpose of this paper is to provide an explanation concerning the behavior of the nonwhite/white unemployment ratio from 1930-66. Two factors are considered, namely the influence of education as measured by years of schooling, and the importance of nonwhite migration from the South. It is argued that while these factors appear to have relevance in a study of adult workers, neither factor can explain the teenage nonwhite/white unemployment ratio.
