Abstract
Across a variety of scientific disciplines within medicine and the social sciences, theories have been proposed that attempt to explain people’s ability to maintain well-being in the face of stressful situations. Alongside a more dominant paradigm in which the focus lies on studying the disruption of well-being, a multiplicity of “resource” theories have investigated which assets contribute to the retention of psychosocial health amidst adversity.
