Abstract
As community hospitals become increasingly sophisticated in health care delivery the need for psychiatric consultation units grows. Utilizing a psychiatric nurse and a part time psychiatrist, a liaison service can be developed to offer clinical consultation and staff education in the psychological problems of medical patients. The functions of such a service as well as methods for its development are discussed.
