Abstract

Methane positive chemical ionization and electron impact are found to be as much as 1000-fold less sensitive than methane negative chemical ionization for the detection of poly-chlorodibenzo-p-dioxins. The use of oxygen with or without methane results in somewhat decreased sensitivity and increased specificity for these compounds. The application of methane negative chemical ionization mass spectrometry for the determination of dioxins in tissue and wood is discussed.
