Dendritic branching and homogenization of actin networks mediated by Arp2/3 complex

Abstract

The role of Arp2/3 complex in homogenization and dendritic branching of actin networks was analyzed. It was found that Arp2/3 enhanced the formation of homogeneous and stiff networks. It was observed that the networks formed by Arp2/3 complex were more homogeneous than the control networks due to a distinctive feature which coordinates a dramatic increase in global elasticity. The results show that Arp2/3 complex have a unique function of stabilizing membrane protrusions through the formation of homogeneous and stiff actin cytoskeleton.
