Abstract

Supply and demand estimates for the nursing workforce can vary due to differences in assumptions, modeling approaches, variables, and data. A comparison of two nursing workforce projection reports released by the Health Resources and Services Administration in 2014 and 2017 is discussed, including constituent views of the projections and implications for improvement. In this era of big data, the need to develop a Nursing Masterfile is critical to ensure consistent data to analyze and report emerging trends in the nursing workforce.
