Abstract
DHEA is the acronym used to designate the hormone “dehydroepiandrosterone” also referred to as “prasterone.” The chemical name for DHEA is 5-androsten-3b-ol-17-one (Fig. 1). As a dietary supplement, it is marketed under different trade names (e.g., Nature’s Blend DHEA, Nature’s Bounty DHEA, DHEA Max, DHEA Fuel, etc.). A pharmaceutical-grade preparation, currently available only for experimental use, has been assigned the trade name Prestara (previously known as Aslera or GL701).
