Abstract
The report describes the authors' experience with salvage of the spleen after rupture. The discussion focuses on the immunological functions of the spleen and the present-day role of conservative operation in preventing overwhelming sepsis. Accumulated data warrant the continued avoidance of total splenectomy whenever feasible.
