Abstract
We compared the efficacy of atorvastatin with pravastatin, simvastatin, fluvastatin, and lovastatin in 534 hypercholesterolemic patients in an 8- week, multicenter, randomized, open-label, parallel-group study. Atorvastatin 10, 20, and 40 mg produced significantly greater reductions (p ≤ .01) from baseline in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and in total cholesterol than the milligram-equivalent doses of simvastatin, pravastatin, lovastatin, and fluvastatin. Safety profiles and tolerability wer similar for all the statins in this study.
