Abstract

This issue publishes the proceedings of the three-session Biomaterials Symposium held during the Seventh Annual Meeting of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, Apil 24-26 1972, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition to the texts of 13 papers on applications of synthetic implants, research, and nontechnical aspects, a summary and panel discussion are included. Following is a list of titles and authors: Innovations in Implants for Orthopedic Surgery. By Harlan C. Amstutz. Plastic Surgery Applications of Synthetic Implants. By F. J. Gerow, M. Spira, S. Baron Hardy. Toxicologic Studies, Quality Control, and Efficacy of the Silastic Mammary Prosthesis. By Gordon Robertson and Silas Braley. Electroneuroprostheses: Past and Present Uses in Man. By Blaine S. Nashold Jr. and Harry Friedman. Role of Materials Research in Improving Synthetic Implants. By Emanuel Horowitz. Interfacial Phenomena and Biomaterials. By J. D. Andrade. Current Status of In Vivo Screening of Synthetic Implant Materials for Blood Compatibility. By Vincent L. Gott and Akira Furuse. Toxicogenic Potentials of Biomaterials and Methods for Evaluating Toxicity. By John Autian and Elwood Dillingham.
