Abstract
Avian erythrocyte-specific histone KSA was purified from chicken red blood cells by selective extraction and by chromatography on amberlite CG-50 columns. This histone was used in the production of antibody in guinea pigs. By immunoprecipitation and microcomplement-fixation tests, the antibody was shown to be specific for histone KSA; reaction was not seen with histones KAP, ARE, GRK, LAK, and KAS. The observation supports the notion that histone KSA has an independent origin from that of other histones.
