A novel pediatric vision screener employing wave-plate-enhanced, retinal-birefringence-scanning-based strabismus detection and double-pass focus detection

Abstract

We describe a novel Pediatric Vision Screener (PVS) that employs wave-plateenhanced retinal birefringence scanning for strabismus detection, essentially independent of an eye's corneal birefringence, and double-pass focus detection using a bull's eye photodetector, with an improved target system. The performance of the novel PVS is demonstrated in adult volunteers.
